: the short legs are the way to go as the lever arm on the tube is high,
That was one of the reasons for the design. A cart available here commercially was very poor in that sense - long legs and short cradle (fore & aft) for the kayak to sit on. They had to "beef-up" the strap fastenings as they were breaking - that should have sent a warning to the designers.
: I wonder if you
: made the leg out of tubing 1/8 inch larger than the bars and glued a small
: pc of the larger tubing inside the cross pc of the t-fitting.
: then on dissassembly the cross bars would fit inside the legs for a real
: compact assembly.
I've never gone for that amount of compaction but nothing to stop variations on the theme. One reason for using same size tubes across and leg is that they fit into a "T" piece made for joining PVC pipes. This is a strong, moulded "T" joint and any gluing is just to keep the tubes from slipping out of the "T".
I have one welded aluminium version and a PVC one, usually take the AL one on trips as the tubes are thinner which makes it a bit smaller.
