: Thanks Paul, have you built one?
No. I haven't, but it is about 6th on my "to do" list. I've had the plans for over 40 years, and hope to get to it sometime in the next decade. Time and $ permitting. OK, I'm slow.
I don't plan to build it for myself. I think the design is a bit boxy, and the boat may be too small for my weight. On the other hand, the bottom would take a lot of the abuse the local river dishes out. I'd consider stretching it by a foot or two for myself, mainly by spacing out the forms, and I might make the chines 3/4 by 1 1/4 instead of 3/4 by 1, as a concession to gravity and waistline.
Most of the people who I have sent these plans to were loking for a simple boat for kids, which would be fast to build, reasonably light, and cheap. Since this design does not call for any fiberglass or epoxy resin at all, (although you could use those materials to sheathe the outside) the cost is significantly reduced.
Kids are usually so happy to have a boat of their own that they aren't complaining about the straight lines and hard chines.
