: Well, I have finally moved into my new apt. at grad school. I have just
: enough space to build and get two 17' kayaks out the door, I think. I am
: building a Pygmy AT and the Osprey Standard for the wife. Are the boats
: really only 12" deep/ in height? Does anyone have a sure fire way to
: build a life size model of the dimensions?

: The problem now is storage. I talked my wife into suspending them from the
: ceiling. Am I crazy? How would one go about this?

Mike,

By the time suspension hooks or some other hardware is added, the lowest point of your boats will be about 14" to 15" from the ceiling.

We really can't answer your question very well without knowing more about your apartment. Things like how high the ceiling is and what kind of interior finish it has. The basic idea is to screw sturdy hooks into the overhead beams. If you have exposed beams, the solution is probably very easy. I have two of my kayaks suspended in the garage and doing it was no problem. Finding beams in a sheetrocked ceiling coated with popcorn in a rental unit can pose problems. So tell what you have.
