: I am thus very, very gun-shy on using polyester and have very limited

: end off a plastic kayak???

I am currently repair the front end of my stripper yak secondary to an endpour gone bad. I did the end pour in the early spring with temps in the 50s. Thinking that it was too cold for slow cure MAS epoxy I used the fast cure and mixed aprox. 2 cups and dropped it in. The cook off was unbelievable with steam rising pur of my cockpit. I quickly immersed the end of the boat into a bucket of water. On inspection everything look OK. Later in the summer I noticed that my bow was rotting under the glass. On very close inpection it appears as if the endpour expanded during cookoff and created a microfracture at the stem. The end result is a kayak the now looks like an A-6 Intruder complete with ram air intake. I am placing a solid block off woodinto the hole and carving it down to fair. Then I will glass the outside.
Moral of the story- small endpours are beter then larger.
