My local Hobie Dealer told me earlier this summer I could buy the Hobie Mirage drive system by itself, without the kayak, for about $550. He implied this was a standard part from any dealer as they sometimes get lost or damaged. He said they get damaged by people driving their cars over them, etc, NOT in use and went on to say how robust they are in use. You can quickly remove the drive and most people do to transport the kayaks. This is how they get lost, misplaced or whatever.
