I had some rough spots on the seam in my Guillemot, too. I took a very sharp chisel and CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY trimmed the worst off. Then set the baot on its side and poured epoxy along the worst spots. A little shifting here and there to get the right level and it is now pretty smooth. I think though that it would really have to have some sharp edges to do any damage to stored items.
