: I have been wanting to build a SOF Greenland-style kayak and have been
: reading Robert Morris' and George Putz' books and know that I could
: probably do it based on the information in those books, but I am much more
: of a "Kinesthetic Learner." So... I have found a class at the
: Mystic Seaport Museum in CT, if any other novice builders are interested.
: It takes place over two 3-day weekends, and you construct a
: Greenland-style kayak based on traditional anthropometric measurements. I
: am really looking forward to building my first boat with some hands-on
: guidance. The first class is in January...perfect mid-winter project!
I heard about the last class the day before it was due to start. I would have gone that way, given the chance, but I wanted to have a boat built before the Delmarva Retreat. I'm "winging" it instead using references from Morris, Cunningham and Boucher and the boat looks like it's going to come out OK. Taking a class certainly would have saved me a lot of time learning from my mistakes, but it's been an enjoyable process.
