i guess you could convert the rabbet to a side rabbet by bolting on a little fence thru those two screw or bolt holes in the side of your plane. the fence could have an off set for the strip depth. then the whole thing'd be much easier to guide.
only problem with planing on the forms i guess, is where the strips curve greatly - then it'd cut too deep on a convex and too shallow on a concave because of the long sole length(like near a swooping upturned bow?)
