Bryan - Look up Caleb Davis. He makes canoe paddles for a living, teaches making them, and can supply materials. A hell of a nice guy, often seen at east coat boat shows and such. I've seen his paddles and got a lot of good info from him. His paddles are usually cherry, but he also does walnut, butternut, etc.
