Hi Mike, if I am not mistaken, Ebony is a very hard wood. I have scraped Rock Maple and I can tell you, it is not easy to get a good shaving; you tend to get powder. So, I might actually try your technique on my unfinished maple dresser. For softwoods or large projects, I don't know if it's worth the extra danger; especially since metal scrapers are such safe tools.

I cut myself all the time on small bladed tools with big handles; I would hate get cut bearing down hard on a big piece of glass like that.
