Thanks for all of the ideas about skegs. This is the shape I came up with. I cut it out of styrofoam and glued it on. I just got back from the pond after trying it out. It is perfect. The boat tracks like an arrow and when I am turning and I stop paddling it immediately tracks straight out of the turn. Now I just have to turn it into wood.
