Bob, Ive been toying with that myself. So far for me, the jury is still out. My favorite paddles have a rounded-corner tip which is still flat at the end. I used the cap of a spray can to draw the corners. Rounding off the edges, in both planes, will limit the cavitation to a minimum.
I do have two paddles with pointed tips. The first one is a little too narrow, and it flutters more than I like, although I can eliminate that with technique. The second one I just finished and have not tried it out yet. It has a wider blade, with the width carried further up the blades. This paddle feels big, I'll let you know after this weekend how it acts.
The paddles I tried up at R2K which were leaf-shaped had a real nice entry to them, and an even power stroke. The small tip eliminates cavitation, even when the paddle is overpowered. I'm suspecting that I'll like that shape better, as soon as I find a good blade shape to go along with it.
This picture was taken last Sunday, after rough shaping and before sanding and final shaping.
: I carved out a paddle last night, sort of a Greenland shape with a flat power
: face, Tonight I'll shape the loom and the tips of the blades. My question,
: is there any advantage to a pointed lozenge over a radiused tip. Thanks.
: Bob
