Ittt ssure makkes me highher! Next time I'll runn the fume hood!
And it does seem to leave a different finish. I cant tell for sure if it penetrated better, or what, but after three coats the finish is silkier than it was with paint thinner. That may be explained by my replacing the stock of steel wool. I do have to open the door and run the circulation fan.
The differences in the thinners are contaminates. More expensive, more pure. How much do those contaminates matter in an oil finished paddle? Seems to me, it's just going to get beat up anyway.
: All the information I have on hand (back issues of Fine Woodworking Magazine)
: say turpentine is more toxic, and is much more of a fire hazard than
: mineral spirits.
: Most of the articles I've read suggest substituting ordorless mineral spirits
: if at all possible.
: To thin paints, oils and varnishes you need a high quality pure thinner, so
: be aware there are different grades of mineral spirits. Some are intended
: for cleaning brushes (blue label) and the higher quality pure (more
: expensive) mineral spirits are meant to be used as a finish thinner.
