hi Bill!

these little coils are probably marginal at even boiling that much water, so the issue would probably be to put in 2 coils and then into a simple octopus extension cord.
I guess you could put a control on it but i'd let it spurt away w/ top(not a cap) to direct back the splashes and then just pull the plug just before you pull the strip.

I think you;re right - not a good idea to peek in as it's boiling along. When i steam in the flexible drain tube steamer, it is a killer to fish for pieces when the steam is still going, a lesson learned quite well once! So the same idea for the long tube.

most likely the biggest problem is enough heat, so i'd probably spray foam around the pipe to stop it from cooling too much.

i do not think that propane or any exposed flame, is the way to go. the elec is way cleaner.

I realized after the last posting that silicone sealant is or can be fairly high heat, so instead of the epoxy, maybe just some sealant would be the easiest and most water tight.
