In Response To: scarfing 3mm ply (Dean Trexel)

: Has anyone out there scarfed 3mm (~1/8") plywood, or is butt-jointing
: the only way to go with thin stuff? If I remember right, the scarf ratio
: is 12:1 length:thickness. That would make a standard 4mm scarf 48mm
: (~2") long but a 3mm scarf only 36mm (~1-1/2") long. I was just
: curious if this was too small of an area to get a good joint with, or if
: planing thin plywood was more problematic than the thicker stuff...

: Thanks,

: Dean
Back when gliders were wooden the scarf ratio used was 1:20, never met any problems even on thinner (0.9, 1.2 mm) plywood. It takes some time thats all.
