If you are used to dodging obstacles, then you will be partially prepared for use of a skin boat. Then, it makes a difference what materials you use. The wood materials are a little different, but not so much that you would have a problem with most acceptable spieces. The skin will be the determining factor. If you are in an area that's loaded with tree branches, stumps and rocks I would suggest the use of some sort of nylon, dacron or Polyester material as they are much more durable than the alternative, Canvas. The cost difference is not prohibitive, but is a bit more. Some of the folks here have used these materials with good results and you will hear from them shortly. I would say, go ahead and build.

They are not as tough as the plywood or strip boats, but you just need to be a tad more careful.
