: Okay, timing is everything, and this time I missed it. I have to (okay, GET
: to) move to St. Thomas, USVI. The problem? My kayak is unfinished. I will
: only be able to finish stripping the deck. I seriously doubt I will make
: it to any 'glassing, but if I do it will only be the outside. If I wrap it
: tightly with plastic and keep it on the frame, could I ship it: A. In a
: wooden crate (costs more)
: B. On top of my car (company pays to ship the car)
: Thanks,
: Malcolm
: P.S. Any info on homes in St. Thomas much appreciated as well. Also looking
: for '97 and up Jeep Wrangler Sport for sale when I get there if anyone
: knows of one.
I don't remember whether is was Joe Greenley or Jay Babina who sent a boat or two over to Australia some time back, but they built a dynamite crate for the boat. I would advise the crate on top of the car if possible. The crate wouldn't be all that tough to construct, and will take a few hits on a boat ride without damaging the contents. I wouldn't trust a boat on top of a vehicle inside a ship. Too much movement and possible shifting of cargo.
Better make that a Brick house, as the weather gets pretty foul a couple times a year I've heard. Their storms usually come with Names!!!
