Great minds (?) must think alike.
Less than 24 hours ago I recalculated the offsets from Putz's book to make shorter forms that would sit on a strongback, rather than be nailed to the floor. I already have a strongback, and did not want to use the extra plywood. Putz calls for two full sheets for the forms. By mounting them on strongback I should be able to get all 6 forms for the 17 footer from a 1/2 sheet of plywood. I plan to cut off 20 (surplus) inches from the bottom of the forms, leaving the lines of the boat untouched. Instead of being 35 inches tall, the forms will be just 15 inches tall. At that height, the widest form will be a bit under 24 inches wide at its base. I just bought some 7/16 OSB and had the store rip it to 2 x 8 foot panels. I should get all the forms from just one of those. I don't have them with me right now, but I'll post the measurements I've calculated tomorrow if anyone is interested.
I set the formulas in a spreadsheet and will do the 18.5 footer late tonight. I should be able to post both sets of numbers.
