UGGGHH!! Curved facings! I hate curved facings! That's why I dropped out of 4-H sewing when I was 9! I hate sewing curved hems!

Just kidding. Seriously, though, if you're not a good sewer, (that is, someone who sews, not the place waste goes) you will have a hard time sewing a curved hem.

Okay, that being said, I've found it easier to cut the deck cover to the same size as the coaming or just 1/2" bigger. (Nylon sprayskirts, not neoprene) Then, cut a strip of fabric about 4" wide and the length of the circumference of the sprayskirt. Double this fabric over, sew it on around the outer edge of the cockpit cover piece and seamseal it. I usually put the seam in the back of the cockpit, and leave a small opening to pass the bungies out.

With a neoprene "tube", I prefer to have at least the top fit snugly. I think having a 3 or 4" section of neoprene fitting snugly around your waist to be a lot more comfortable than a top bungee or belt. You don't have to wear it as tight if you have the whole neoprene tube fit snugly rather than a top cinch to keep the same amount of water out.

If you sew this loop to the bottom of the skirt and remember to keep it above the skirt when you put the skirt on the boat, it is much easier to remove in a wet exit.
