I sat in some commercial whitewater kayaks (paddled them too!) at the kayak expo. I found the cockpit was like a tennis shoe rather than a house slipper. I wondered if I could get out. I decided to just stay upright, and figured that what you say below would apply. I didn't have to exit (I stayed upright), so I didn't get to prove (your) my hypothesis.
