Yes, I added a second thickness of plywood to the inside of the deck and then carved out a flat ring to bolt the day hatch into. It is just aft of the rear bulkhead so it should stay dry in the event of a wet exit.

Figure it will work well to hold wallet, sunglasses maybe even a cold beer or two!
