If you can find a copy of "Canoes and Canoeing" by Percy W. Blandford (try a used-book store or library/inter-library loan), there's a chapter on making downwind and upwind sail rigs, rudders, leeboards, etc. Nice little book if you can get your hands on one...plans for 3 skin kayaks (one folding), a ply kayak, a skin-on-frame Canadian canoe, paddles, sailing gear and accessories.s.
