Hi howdy Jim,

My Cape Charles 18 weighs AT LEAST that much. Probably closer to 65lbs. I contribute the extra to being first time builder, and beefing up some of the structural parts. I believe, as Nick says, that I got my epoxy on too thick, although I used just over 1.5 gallons.

I made my deck beams thicker than called for, sheer clamps were 1 inch square, and I have leather straps on my hatches.

Not to worry though, on my first overnighter, I had 60 lbs. of gear in the boat. That only put me about an inch lower than just by myself. I had a two foot chop the second day, and stayed completely dry...without a skirt.

Too late now, You've been a bbaaadd boy and deserve a good paddlin'. Now GET OUT THERE, AND PADDLE IT!
