Aloha,
I went for a very clean deck appearance, so I just put a couple of threaded inserts in so that I can attach whatever junk I want later. But I have to say that the one idea that I saw that I really liked was the one by homegrownboats.com. I'm not affiliated with them but I like their bungie restraint idea and will likely do something similar someday.
