I might be a little more conservative and put a layer of glass over the veneer instead of just epoxy.
I used epoxy to build up a ramp over the step from the veneer to the deck, then glassed over it. I tried to sand and feather the step (instead of fairing the step by adding epoxy) but found it just too difficult to do.
When I used the 5 min. epoxy to put down my veneer some got on the front face, and I was worried that it would be a different color than the West System stuff, but in the end there is no noticable difference.
Small holes in the veneer design (like the hole in an "o" make fairing a challenge too.
All and all mine came out real nice, and I;m sure yours will too!
