I'm also looking into the Chesapeake 17LT. Any suggestions?

I noticed that there can be a difference from co. to co. re: what's included in their kits. I finally decided on the CLC 18LT because we're close enough to Annapolis to allow a visit to their shop for a first hand look & test fit. They also a monthly free test paddle. If you're close enough to any of the companies that would probably be your best bet.
