If you don't like the simplified version try this.... Your arm span plus a cubit ( the distance betwtween yor elbow and the tips of your fingers) for the length. The distance from outside to outside of your Shoulders (at the detoids) for the width of the grip. The distance fron first knuckle of index finger to base of the thumb, for the width of the bladeand you thumb and index finger should only touch around the shaft. That's what a true Greenlander would measure for his paddle. anything less is a paddle that doesn't fit. AL
