Without knowing the answer at all, I wonder if it's a carry over notion from the polyesther resins. I don't know which came first. The dirt cheap polyesther resins do not like in any way shape or form to penetrate wood, and really do require thinning to get them into the wood much at all. Just rumenating on the idea.
