Cheap shear clamp clamps

Here's what I did. I ripped some pine 3/4 stock into 3/4' x 3/4' stock. Then cut them into 4" lengths. Cut some 3/4 x 3/4 x 3/4 blocks also from the stock. attach the 3/4 x 3/4 x 3/4 blocks to a bunch of the 4 inch pieces- on the end. (just a simple finish nail will do) This is half of the clamp. The other side is a 4' piece of the stock. Drill a hole through the 4" piece of stock in 2 inches. The hole is large enough so a 3" long sheet rock screw will freely travel through it. It bites into the other piece with the block on the end. You now have a clamp that cost you only 5 cents if you have a scrap of pine shelving around for the wood.

Use the course thread screws. You won't believe the power of these simple clamps. I put a washer on the head of the screw. another 1 cent. (I went all the way) They work great!
