The Chesapeake is a much improved version of my old Cape Charles design. It is stronger, better balanced, easier to build, and more seaworthy. This is the boat I'd build.

As for George's recommendations on construction. They are dangerous and I strongly advice you not to follow them. George has visited our shop and spoken with me at length. It is my understanding that he has never paddled in the ocean or in ocean - conditions, only on windy lakes.

Please don't follow his advice in building my designs - your boat may well break if you do. As for weights, anyone is welcome to weigh the boats in our shop (the weights are in the catalog too) - they are some of the lightest sea kayaks made, you hardly need to build them even lighter unless you plan to race.
