I have also heard that Kokatat will make custom dry suits for little over the normal cost. Perhaps their two piece "dry suit" system is another alternative. It consists of bib-type pants, and a dry suit top (with hood). The two pieces can be rolled together at the waist to form a seal. I am sure that the seal is not as good as a one-piece, but buying separately sized pieces may be a good option.
During a two-day class this past weekend I used a Kokatat one-piece Gore-Tex suit. We were in the water about 1/3 of the time and I was extremely comfortable--both in and out of the water. If I were purchasing, I would think very hard about springing for the Gore-Tex. You will stay much drier.
