There is no such thing as The Best Design. If you intend to be getting away from civilization you need to be very familiar with the boat you are using. You will want to know how it responds in different situations so you will have a good feel of conditions you should avoid. You need to be comfortable with the boat. Start trying as many boats as you can now and then look for a design that is similar to the one you like the best. If you can't find an ideal match, you will at least be familiar with what you like so you can be educated in your search.

Don't believe anyone who says they have the ideal boat for you, that is a decision you will have to make for yourself. I think my Expedition Single design would be what I would want for a similar adventure, but that is what I am used to.

Worry about the design before the ability to take it apart, but once you have settled on a design, be careful about the take-apart features, because they will probably be a weak point for the boat.
