That's a great idea! I don't do any vinyl, but it's a great option. A good sign shop could really come up with some super graphics. In many cases you could save money by applying them yourself. The graphics would be applied over the final finish.
DO NOT go to the corner quicky sign shop. They typically used cheap vinyl and very seldom have much design skill. If you went to the trouble to build a fine kayak, you would want great graphics.
I belong to a loose knit group of sign professionals called "Letterheads". This group is dedicated to delivering the very best in sign and logo art. On our website, you can find a directory of shops to find a "Letterhead" close to you.
