I always leave the index in one window and opening a message in a new window. (With MSIE right-click on the message-link and choose *"open in new window") That way I can return to the index while the messages are loading and keep on reading/choosing other messages while waiting. When i finish reading a thread, i simply close that window and returns to the "index"-window in stead of reloading it. Works fine and fast.
