I read somewhere back a discussion of using rite dye to color strips of wood. Has anyone tried a wood stain. In a moment of temporary insanity I stained a half width strip with a water based stain prior to gluing it up. It's a forest geen color to add contrast at the chine and looks nice between white and red cedar strips.
Now that I am back to my senses I realize:
1. When I plane and sand the boat clear wood is bound to show through. I worry that touching it up will bleed into adjacent strips.
2. Of much greater concern is will the epoxy adhear to a strip with stain on it. The thought of the epoxy not sticking to this strip has me panicked.
Has anyone tried water based stains under epoxy (particularly one with pigment like green) If in doubt I will sand it clean. I may end up with my cool forest green strip looking like somthing that got moldy.
