While I was paddling this morning I was thinking about your post. I built my Ches 18 in conformity with the instructions and it is just fine. However.... I would place an extra layer or two of glass at the stern and the bow keel lines to protect the areas from shore landings and car topping. Those are the two areas that I wear the most and could use some more paint and sanding next spring. Good luck. Brian
