It will also help if your sander has a flexible backing plate to help the paper conform to the inside curves.
A random orbital sander is a wonderful tool if you remember to keep it moving. I had 3 coats of epoxy on the deck of my stitch'n'glue boat, but no varnish. After a year of paddling I decided to redo the deck the right way. I sanded all the cloudy epoxy off the 3mm plywood deck with my ROS and never once cut through the top veneer of the plywood. KEEP IT MOVING.
