Skirt Set.

Lumber prices are pretty reasonable in either monetary system. Consider cutting your own strips and getting plans from a book. David Hazen's book on strip built canoes and kayaks comes with full size plans for the frames for two different strip built kayaks.

If you want to use less lumber, and not have any expensive fiberglass, consider a skin-on-frame from the plans in the George Putz's book on canvas covered boats. Putz figures you can built a boat to his design for under $250 US. From what I've spent so far, figuring list price for everything that seems about right. With careful shopping you can do much better.

I'm not going to try to do the exact conversion in my head, but the price of either of these books is probably around $30 Canadian.

Price of plans in Canada should be in Canadian funds, but I'd guess they set the Canadian price based on what it would cost in the US. Buying plans from a US supplier might not be any more expensive than getting the same plans in Canada. It would pay to call potential supliers and ask for the price.
