If you're looking for pressure relief, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Mark's suggestion - "A piece of rubber with a hole poked in it with a guitar string, attached to the bulkhead over a 1/4" hole should work." This is probably the simplest and most effective (typical of Mark) means to virtually watertight pressure relief. However, if you're looking for air flow (for moisture ventilation?), I suspect you'll need two holes, and probably quite a bit larger than 1/8"; thus defeating the whole purpose of the exercise.

I've given this enough thought for my own kayak-to-be, and think that the pierced membrane method is best, IMHO. At least until someone comes up with something better, ie. a _completely_ watertight gas-permitting solution.
