Guys, The articles on delamination are available online at the below listed site. They are .pdf format and need acrobat to read them. I called the FPL today and spoke with the author. The Hydroxymethylated resorcinol is not available commercially as it must be prepared fresh and used within 6 hours. Also, it turns the wood a reddish color. Mr. Vick (the author) felt that on dark woods this might not be as noticeable, but on lighter colored woods it would be noticeable and might be undesireable. The articles were interesting for another reason. The study (after my earlier post rejecting testing, it's ironic that now I'm referring one) compared an epoxy widely used in airplane construction (FPL-16a), a custom blended epoxy (FPL-1a), and a commercially available epoxy which was un-named. The two FPL adhesives performed well without the HMR and better with it. But, the commercial product didn't appear to perform well at all without the HMR enhancement. In fact, Mr. Vick would not reveal the name of the product to me as he didn't feel it appropriate in light of the product's performance. The FPL-1 adhesive which he custom manufactured, used DOW 331 epoxy resin as its main constituent. Now, I'm off to try and locate a retail source of this item. Any suggestions are welcome. I may try and compound some of the HMR in the article. If I do, I'll let you know how it turns out.
