Good suggestions, Paul. I agree with your logic and conclusions, as well as the timeframes. Late June to early July for South, Late August to Late September for the North.

If there's someone who lives in Northern Calif near Oregon border, perhaps a third one in between, geographically as well as chronologically.

I like the idea of paddling to both (all three). If I had the time and other resources / skilss, I'd love to do such a trip. I always wanted to do it on a bicycle, but it's hard to arrange time, etc.
