If you're a non roller or a struggling roller go for the Pawlata or extended paddle roll. You could roll an air craft carrier with that roll. Most people can learn to roll with it in about an hour or less. From there you can shorten your grip and work on other styles. I taught about 50 people over the years and all of them started with the extended paddle roll and they all rolled in less than an an hour.

I have seen people learning the C to C taught by ACA instructors go on from pool session to pool session with no success at all. You roll to get up so use techniques that get you up easily. You can switch from your paddling grip to the extended paddle position in about 2 seconds. It's also not dependant on a hip flick. Try it, it's really easy. Once you do your first one, you'll be amaized.
