Here's a simplified description. None of the stiff wire things will work.

Snap a line down the center on the hull and deck. With your boat on horses and level you build a large (C) shaped device out of wood. This travels on a stand along the boat and reaches in to the middle of the hull.

Put it in the center of the boat. You now use a series of pointers that come in for the (C) shaped device and touch the hull every inch or less.. You take off the (C) bracket with the pointers and trace it on paper. You later connect the points. Obviously the more pointers you use the better. these can be held in place with squeeze clamps. The (C) bracket goes back on and moved down the boat and another biopsy is drawn. You only need a half model.

To get an accurate rocker, you need to float the boat and mark the water line. Then put the boat in slings and level that line. Now draw a string from end to end thats also level and take your rocker measurements at the points that you made you r drawings. done.
