As long as the fiberglass rope is laid against the hull without gaps it should work.

By keeping it "Tight to the hull" I don't mean tension in the rope (although that would probably work well on a concave X-sect.), but rather, do it like you're glassing the rope to the hull.

It mith be good to cut a piece of cardboard so that it almost lays agains the hull at its edge (like an exterior mold bulkhead) and glue that to the rope mold to make it more rigid.
