A cheaper, and perhaps faster material for this is paper mache. Strips or torn scraps of newsppaer soaked for a moment in wallpaper paste, (or simply flour, salt and warm water) can be built up rapidly into stiff copies of the curves. No messy resin drips, the stuff is safe (edible, even!) with no foul fumes, and available at any grocery store. To get the fastest drying, do one area thinly and move on to the next. When you have done all you want, go back to the first one and build up a few more layers. Do this several times to get the thickness and stiffness you desire. Use a hair dryer to speed drying, or just leave the thing in the sun for a few hours on a warm day. Clean up messes with paper towels and warm water. A thin coat of paste wax on the hull can be used instead of saran wrap. For added stiffness, small pieces of wood (the size of wooden matchsticks) can be trapped between layers of paper mache as you build them up. Paul Jacobson
