I usually don't end up wasting that foaming epoxy either. Like you say it seems to clear up fine. The manufactures recommend not using it, so in my book I felt it was better to repeat the party line on this. After I have finished spreading, I will generally squeegee one more time to remove any excess. If I did my spreading well, this doesn't amount to much, but since I don't have anywhere left to put the excess I throw it out.
