Well here what I’ve done so far ( keep in mind I’m still working on the kayak and haven’t gotten to the amas yet )…

First I’m putting up a _lot_ of sail area 114sqft to be exact. The boat will be capable of speeds in excess of 25 knots. It has a split rig ( ketch ) in order to distribute the load and keep it low.

The amas will be the same length as the kayak 19.5ft. When she’s up to speed the kayak will be out of the water ( flying ), so its hull speed will be dictated by the amas. This also means I had to beef up the mounts. I am running a second sheer clamp, and that is where the through bolts will go. The one behind the fore bulkhead will actually be encased in a copper tube that runs through the boat. Since this bolt is down by my feet and not near a hatch, which is how I get to the rest of them.

I also am putting in: a breasthook ( a piece of wood that runs from the forepeek to the first deck beam ) a keelson ( an inner keel ) additional full deck beams ( I used the reinforcing straps that CLC supplied to make full deck beams at the hatches ) carlins ( the fore and aft wood on a deck )

The akas ( crossbeams ) will have an aerodynamic cover on them to lessen wave impacts and strengthen them. The ‘beams’ will actually be built up of fore and aft laminations. The ‘aero’ sections affixed to them the same way strip planked canoes are ( thanks gents )

I’m looking into different mounts for the amas

For a moderate sail area most of these needs are not needed.
