On the merits of roller vs. brush: A roller is good for getting an even coating, but it tends to apply a thin coating. A brush is better for applying a thick coating but takes more expertise to get an even coating.
I've had good success applying epoxy with a roller and tipping out with a foam brush to pop bubbles.
