Apply 3 coats of epoxy to seal the wood and three coats of varnish to protect the epoxy.

Fiberglass cloth does not like to bend around a sharp edge. Anything less than 1/8" radius will cause the glass to lift and leave air pockets UNLESS, you stretch and tape plastic kitchen wrap over the wet cloth to hold it in place eliminating air voids. If you have the potential for high abrasion on an edge, such as the stems of the boat, this is worth doing. If not, coating with epoxy is sufficient.
