I usually make my coaming vertical, but I have leaned the ends out. If you start with the front strips leaned forward, the sides strips will also be leaned forward. If you want to have the whole coaming flared outward, you will need to use somewhat tapered strips. Imagine the strips to cover a cone. They would all need to taper to a point. You probably don't need to taper every strip, just one every once in a while. Nick
